Oil Palm Cultivation: The Telangana state government has formulated policies to encourage the cultivation of oil palm across 2.30 lakh acres during the year 2023-24. With a vision to achieve this goal, the government has designed a comprehensive cultivation strategy, gaining recent approval from the central government. To support oil palm cultivation needs, the state government has allocated a budget of INR 750 crore.
Implementing this initiative successfully, officials have undertaken proactive steps to boost the cultivation of oil palm. Multiple companies, focusing on improving crop yields and providing guidance, have already established 38 nurseries in various districts. The Horticulture Department officials and Assistant Executive Officers (AEOs) are actively engaged in disseminating information and guidance to farmers in order to foster interest in oil palm cultivation.

The plan further delineates specific acreages for oil palm cultivation across different districts, including 18,000 acres in Karimnagar district, 17,800 acres in Siddipet, 16,800 acres in Kothagudem, 14,900 acres in Peddapalli, and 12,800 acres in Bhupalpalli. These ambitious goals aim to expand the cultivation of oil palm across various districts, thereby contributing to economic growth and development in the region.
Significantly, through restructuring, the addition of Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Medak, and Sangareddy districts have further enhanced the scope of oil palm cultivation efforts. This expansion will enable oil palm cultivation in 31 districts of the state. Additionally, the government has allocated 5,500 acres to Value Oil and Gas Services Company in Rangareddy district, 3,000 acres to Healthy Hearts in Vikarabad district, 5,000 acres to Living Company in Medak district, and 5,000 acres to Godrej Company in Sangareddy district.

Telangana ranks second in the country in terms of oil palm cultivation. Previously, the cultivation was limited to just 36 lakh acres. However, the state government’s encouragement has propelled the expansion of oil palm cultivation to a remarkable 154 lakh acres. The successful realization of this target will significantly contribute to the economic and agricultural progress of Telangana.
Telangana’s commitment to oil palm cultivation is evident through its proactive measures and strategic planning. By expanding the cultivation area and engaging farmers, the state is paving the way for agricultural prosperity and economic growth, making oil palm a key player in the state’s agricultural landscape.
