Flower colour:  Colours are important. They make us feel good and help us make things pretty. Usually, we use man-made colours, but we can also get colours from flowers. These natural colours are great because they’re safe and good for the Earth. Let’s learn how to make them!

First, pick flowers with colours you like. Flowers like marigolds, roses, hibiscus, and sunflowers work well. Make sure they’re fresh and haven’t been sprayed with chemicals.

Wash the flowers gently to clean them. It’s best if they’re organic and chemical-free. Remove the petals from the flowers. Throw away the stems and other parts. Petals have the colours we want.

Smash the petals into a mush using a tool like a blender or a mortar and pestle. This helps get the colours out. Decide what liquid to use to get the colours. Water is good for most flowers, but some need alcohol or oil.

Put the mushed petals in a container and add the liquid. Make sure the petals are covered. Stir it gently. You can heat the mixture a little to make the colours come out faster. Or you can wait for some hours, even overnight, for the colours to come out naturally.

When you see the colours you like, strain the mixture. Use a sieve or cloth to remove the solid stuff. This leaves you with pure colour. Put the colours in a clean container with a lid. Label it so you know which flower it came from.
