Telangana Horticultural University: In a significant development, Dr. B. Neeraja Prabhakar, Vice Chancellor of Telangana State Horticultural University, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) for the ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIOPR) located in Pedavegi, Andhra Pradesh. The appointment, made by the Indian Council of Agricultural Sciences, Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, is valid for a three-year term starting from June 13, 2023.
The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) consists of 10 members and plays a crucial role in guiding the research activities of the ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research. As the premier institution in the country dedicated to oil palm research, the IIOPR develops technologies that can be adopted by oil palm growers across the nation. Dr. B. Neeraja Prabhakar, serving as the committees’ chairperson, will provide valuable direction and insights to the institute, focusing on addressing the challenges faced by oil palm farmers in India.
In addition to her role as Chairman of the RAC, Dr. B. Neeraja Prabhakar is also a member of the Telangana Oil Palm Advisory Committee. This committee advises the Telangana government on matters related to the expansion of oil palm cultivation, as well as the challenges faced by the oil palm processing industry. Dr. Prabhakar expressed her belief that Telangana has the potential to become a leading destination for oil palm cultivation in India. She emphasized that the state’s oil palm bunches are of high quality, ensuring a satisfactory oil recovery rate. Furthermore, she highlighted Telangana’s ability to address the current shortage of edible oils in the country.
