Urban Farming: In a remarkable endeavour towards sustainable urban agriculture, Prateek Tiwari, the Founder & CEO of Living Greens Organics Pvt Ltd, has introduced India’s inaugural Urban Farming Centre atop a Hyderabad rooftop. Collaborating with CDMA Staff College, this initiative showcases innovative techniques for cultivating organic vegetables and herbs without conventional soil methods, setting the stage for a new era of responsible farming.
The rooftop, spanning the CDMA building, serves as a live showcase for Portable Farming Systems, enabling urban residents to witness first and the cultivation of high-quality organic produce in limited spaces. This groundbreaking method eliminates the need for traditional soil-based approaches.
First Rooftop Organic Farming
One of the project’s significant aspects is its emphasis on education. Through the center, Women Self-Help Groups will receive training in Rooftop Organic Farming. This empowering endeavour equips women with the skills to cultivate organic vegetables both for personal consumption and commercial ventures, fostering entrepreneurship and healthy lifestyles.
Government bodies are also set to benefit from this pioneering initiative. The Urban Farming Centre intends to train interested governmental departments in adopting organic farming practices on their rooftops. This move aims to instill eco-consciousness and self-sufficiency, driving a cultural shift towards sustainable agriculture.
First Rooftop Organic Farming
Prateek Tiwari’s journey commenced in 2013, when he left his job at Walmart to explore organic farming. His solution involves lightweight portable greenhouses installed on rooftops, enabling individuals and families with space limitations to engage in sustainable cultivation and add greenery to urban landscapes.
The inauguration of India’s foremost Urban Farming Centre reflects the nation’s commitment to sustainable practices and innovative solutions for urban challenges.
