Arka Saavi Rose Farming: Roses are truly special flowers, captivating the hearts of many, especially women, all around the world. Simultaneously, commercial rose farming has caught the attention of farmers due to the potential profits it offers. With this in mind, farmers are now focusing on rose cultivation, and one such farmer is Ramarao, who hails from the Anakapalli District in Andhra Pradesh.
Ramarao, a retired bank employee, has taken up rose farming in the village of Atigairampeta. He has introduced a unique variety of roses known as “Arka Saavi” to the region. This particular rose variety has piqued the interest of other farmers due to its distinct characteristics. Arka Saavi roses are specially cultivated for ornamental purposes, and they are adorned with care. What sets them apart is that after the petals are plucked, the flowers can remain fresh for up to seven days, which is quite remarkable.

The Indian Horticultural Research Institute in Bengaluru conducted research on these roses and later introduced improved varieties, one of which is Arka Saavi. Ramarao planted 15 acres of these roses and started his agricultural journey after retirement. He chose this specific rose variety because it’s in high demand for decorations and garlands during festivals and special occasions.
Ramarao shares his insights on rose farming, explaining that each acre can yield up to 30 tonnes of roses, making it a potentially lucrative venture for farmers. Moreover, these roses can provide a continuous source of income for about 15 years, making them an appealing choice for agriculture.
Farmers aiming for success in rose farming need to pay attention to some key aspects. The roses should be planted with a minimum of three feet between each plant, ensuring enough space for proper growth. It’s essential to monitor and maintain the roses regularly. Additionally, proper pruning and care should be provided to ensure a healthy yield.

Currently, these roses are sold at a rate of approximately 50 Indian Rupees per kg. However, the demand for other types of flowers in the market has a shelf life of only seven days. In contrast, Arka Saavi roses remain fresh for a month. This unique selling point has garnered the attention of many farmers.
Ramarao’s success story in rose farming serves as an inspiration to other farmers, and he encourages them to consider rose cultivation as a profitable venture. With dedication and careful cultivation, roses can indeed become a blossoming source of income for farmers.
